Asiatic Golden Cats in Bhutan

Four different types of Asiatic golden cat (catopuma temminicki) were sighted in the country on a camera trap between 2008 and 2010.

A medium sized-wild cat, Asian golden cats range in body length from 30 – 41 inches with males usually larger than females.

Singapore Bhutan Druk Air Flight

Druk Air and Changi Airport of Singapore signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to start direct flights between Singapore and Bhutan from May 17 this year. According to the memorandum Druk Air will fly to Singapore twice a week.

No Golf Course for Bumthang

The proposal to build a golf course in Ura, Bumthang, has been rejected by the government.

The golf course has been rejected on grounds that it would affect community grazing activity in Shingkhar, and the water supply of a hydropower unit in Ura. A government agency found that almost the entire golf course would be located on wetland, once completed. A ministry of agriculture and forests notification issued earlier this year stipulated that natural wetland would be protected.

The Village Hostess

For the last 13 years, Jordhen has been entertaining guests in her old two-storied traditional house in Bangbangla village in Gongdue Gewog, Mongar. Her work is to feed guests coming to the Gewog, and also provide shelter, if they choose to stay at her house.

Jordhen is the village’s Tosop, a responsibility given by the local government.

Temples within Tashichhodzong

Here is a short history of 3 structures built in the early 20th century under the patronage of the local chief, Dzongpon Kunzang Thinley. Two of these structures were built in the courtyard of the Tashichhodzong, and one in its proximity. While one of them has been demolished, two are still standing.
