Bhutan is a Top Travel Destination for 2009

Wanderlust, a popular travel magazine of United Kingdom, in the March issue listed Bhutan as one of the worldclass tourist destinations. The Tourism Council of Bhutan (TCB) received a certificate ‘Top Country 2009’.

“It is an honour to receive the certificate because it means the country is being recognized more and more in the outside world,” said Tashi Peday, spokesperson of TCB. “But the also award meant more responsibility for the Council.”

“When we got the information that we were elected for the certificate, the Council was proud but we knew that it will be an enormous task for us to maintain the image in future,” she said.

She added that winning the award meant promotion of the country in the global market, which will result in more arrivals and in the process would generate more income for the country.

According to the TCB winning the award was purely based on the feedback of the people who had visited the country.

Wanderlust Travel Award, which was started 8 years ago, is voted by nearly 3000 consumers based on customer satisfaction level over the past year.

“May be the tourists found the unique tradition and culture of the country fascinating. Our country is also known for warm hospitality”,  said Tashi Peday.

Previously, Bhutan also won the silver award from the wanderlust travel awards for the top country in 2005.
